In April 2019 we celebrated our tenth annual Empowerment Awards, as usual the team and CYA members worked tirelessly throughout the year to bring what we believe has been the best year yet! This year we worked to the theme of The Greatest Showman, we brought to life some of the greatest hits form the movie through live singing, flash mob and visual performances. The CYA members and team pulled out all the stops with dramatic performances around their mental health journeys, stories of progress and support.
One of the many highlights of the night was seeing the journey both of the event, the young people and previous team members have taken through the last ten years in a heart-warming video sharing their memories of the event and how CYA has impacted their lives. In addition, we had the privilege of welcoming various professional performers such as the Sorrellas and Chris Hughes who brought a wide array of talent that complemented the young people perfectly.
However, nothing can top the reason for the whole night recognising those children and young people who have made amazing progress in their mental health journeys and the professionals who go above and beyond to support the needs of the young people with over 170 young people nominated and over 30 professionals, there was plenty to celebrate!
After all the excitement of the night, we closed off with a video made by our CYA member who spoke about what CYA, mental health services and the whole experience means to them. The night was a great success and we received some incredible feedback. The credit for the night goes to everyone involved but especially to our CYA Awards facilitators who overcame fears, shared stories and displayed amazing talent to make the 2019 CYA Awards one of the most successful awards we have run yet!
